The Corsham St George’s 10k Race is fast approaching, taking place at Corsham Town Football Club on Sunday May 1st.

The race gets underway at 11am and will be started by Corsham's MP Duncan Hames, who will also be taking part in the race. Will you be taking part as well? Tell us about any training you’ve been up to or if you participated last year.

The run, which is in its 29th year, is jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Corsham and Corsham Running Club, and with ever growing local support from amongst others, the football and rugby clubs, Sea Scouts, ATC as well main sponsor Corsham Print and other local business’s, making it a real community affair.

“Chip timing was successfully introduced last year bringing the event firmly into the 21st century and this year and will be further enhanced with a brand new finish gantry. With over 800 runners in 2010, Corsham St George’s 10k is undoubtedly one of the most popular races in the South West and now an annual date in many diaries,” said a spokesperson for the Corsham at George’s Day Race.

Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in all categories, plus winners of the mens and ladies team race. No one will go home empty handed as each competitor will be awarded a St George’s Day themed memento, plus other goodies.

The 10k Run has become an important part of the Corsham Rotary Club’s fundraising calendar. Profits from the 2011 race will go to Prostate Cancer Research, via the Chesledon Urology Fund which is based at the RUH and other local charities.

As with previous years, the race will once again be run on the theme of St George’s Day and those who class themselves as "fun runners" are encouraged to dress accordingly, regardless of whether you are a George or a Dragon. Anyone living along the race course is encouraged to dig out their music instruments and add to the carnival atmosphere.

Entry numbers are limited, so it is strongly recommended to register before the day. The cost in advance is £9 (Affilliated), £11 (Un-Affilliated) or, on the day (by 10am latest) £10 (Affilliated), £12 (Un-Affilliated). You can register online at www.corshamrunningclub.co.uk.

The event is sponsored by Corsham Print, Islington Motors, Running Bath, BBC Wiltshire. With thanks to our contributors Corsham Rotary Club, Corsham Running Club, Corsham Town Football Club, Chippenham ATC, Corsham Sea Scouts and Corsham Rugby.
