The Corsham Junior Rugby Club: March 2011
Corsham U11 visited the Malborough Festival.
- Corsham U11 v Bradford on Avon U11
Manny scores a great try, with a little bit of assistance from Oscar within 3 minutes of the start of the first half. Bradford bring on another 2 players on for the second half to make the game 12 v 9 as Corsham are short of the required number of players. Bradford score with a try late on from the backs to make the game 1:1.
- Corsham U11 v Marlborough U11
9 v 12 players again in this last game of the set. There was great pressure from Corsham forwards right through the first half. Fantastic try from Max at beginning of second half. In the first quarter there was some great defence on wing from Harry. Superb run from Zavier just before final whistle! Final score - Corsham 1 Malborough 0
- Corsham U11 v Salisbury U11
(9 v 12 players again but Corsham held up very up well against strong opposition. 1 try to Salisbury at half time. Salisbury forwards were very strong in second half and score a try. A win to Salisbury but a gargantuan effort from Corsham U11 !
Corsham 0 Salisbuy 2
- Corsham U11 v Wootton Bassett U11
Jack scores a great run through try after 5 minutes against this team of 12 v 9. Wootton Bassett score in second half two mins from the end of play! A great game and Corsham should be proud of their results in matches against 12 players.
MINETY U-13s 17 CORSHAM U-13s 20
In a closely fought contest Corsham narrowly defeated Minety winning by four tries to a goal and two tries. Both teams started the match brightly and it soon became apparent that recent training ground work was paying dividends as the Corsham pack repeatedly out rucked the Minety forwards. The same could be said of the scrum where Corsham took advantage of having the significant slope on their side to out muscle their opponents. Plenty of possession provided a large number of running opportunities for the Corsham backs and it was no surprise to see Corsham take the lead as Simon Emery went over to score in his first game for Corsham.
Sustained pressure enabled Corsham to take a ten point lead minutes later as Emery went over for his second try. He was to complete an impressive debut hat trick several minutes later Half time saw the visitors holding a 15-0 advantage.
Minety, now playing downhill, got off to a great start in the second half as fly half Daniel Branston beat several Corsham defenders to touch down under the posts. The try was successfully converted. Corsham then spent a good period camped in the Minety 22 but were not able to convert their territorial advantage into points. In fact the ball was turned over and Branston was able to race away to score his second try leaving the game nicely poised at 15-12 for the visitors. Minutes later, following impressive forward play, Minety bundled over from short distance to take the lead for the first time.
With barely five minutes remaininng Corsham were to score a decisive try. Outside centre George Beavis brought down his opposite number just outside the Corsham 22. He stole the ball, kicked ahead and outsprinted the defence to touch down in the corner -the only try of seven to be scored by the team playing uphill. Corsham then defended stoutly to hold onto their slender.
