-
Wiltshire Police Officers Bill Hayley, Steve Colwill and Philip Tatem with the Mitsubishi Evo FQ300 SST demonstrator and members of the ‘Valleys-Cruise’ Car Club. The group work closely with their local officers to set up special car meets and driving enthusiast events
Saturday at Castle Combe Racing Circuit near Corsham. The Wiltshire Police and
a number of other road safety agencies joined forces and took part in the event.
With an adrenaline
packed schedule of track racing, drifting demonstrations and club displays, the
agencies were on hand to chat with motor enthusiasts and promote all aspects of
safety on the road.
The Wiltshire Police
were also showcasing a brand new Mitsubishi Evo FQ300 SST with a paddle-shift
gearbox, on loan from the manufacturer as a demonstrator vehicle, which drew
much delight amongst those attending the event.
Police Sergeant Bill
Haley said: “This is a fantastically busy show, and the police Evo is a great
crowd puller here which gives us the perfect opportunity to work together and
engage with car enthusiasts”.
On display was a driver
simulator machine that tests hazard awareness and demonstrates the effects of
drink-driving. There was also the Central Road Safety Unit’s Harley Davidson
Motorcycle and their LTI safety cameras.
Road Safety Officers
from Wiltshire Council were on site with specialist vehicles to offer basic
driver training and teach manoeuvres, such as towing a trailer.
Wiltshire Police are
again hoping to organise this partnership presence at future motoring events,
including the Summer Performance Car Action Day in September.
