What Do You Think of the Recycling Reward Scheme?

Labour plans for bin taxes have been scrapped, but what do

you think about this new ‘reward scheme’?

Would it work for Corsham?

There were plans with last government to introduce fines on

how much people chucked away as rubbish, but there was some concern about whether

this would leave to fly-tipping, backyard burning and an increased number of

trips to the dump.

A new reward scheme was highlighted by Communities

Secretary Eric Pickles when he went to visit Windsor and Maidenhead council in

Berkshire where the scheme has been pioneered.

The scheme involves people being awarded points for the

amount they recycle, which could be redeemed at shops, restaurants and leisure

centres, or donated to schools.

Mr Pickles said that the scheme had increased recycling in

that area by 35% and that this approach, in comparison with the taxing and fines

approach, is more effective in reducing the amount of rubbish sent to landfill

sites.

Would this recycling reward rather than punishment for not recycling

enough, encourage you to recycle or do you do so already?

Is it all a load of

rubbish (pardon the pun) or should we be doing more to recycle?

I personally think it’s a good idea but in my household we

recycle as much as possible anyway!
