A new Police Information Point is to be launched in Corsham at the Corsham Police Station on
-
Have you noticed crime in Corsham? “If the Information Points continue to be a success, the force hopes to extend them into other areas,” said Sergeant Alex Reid.
Monday 10th of May 2010 following the successful pilots in
Highworth, Wootton Basset and Tisbury.
Sergeant Alex Reid, from the Corsham Neighbourhood Policing
Team, said: “The opening of these Police Information Points is an excellent
example of the community and the police working together to provide the public
with information on a range of Wiltshire Police services.”
Volunteers staff the Police Information Points and direct
people to local services, issue police forms to the public, receive and record
lost and stolen property, and make appointments for visitors to speak to their
neighbourhood officers.
However, there are some services such as taking reports of
crime, dealing with people reporting on bail, road traffic collisions and
checking vehicle documents, which will still need to be dealt with at Police
Enquiry Offices such as those in Swindon, Melksham, Marlborough, Trowbridge, Chippenham
and Salisbury.
“Initially the Information Point will be open between 10am and
2pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. However, if the community in Corsham
use the facility and people are willing to come forward as volunteers then we
will look to staff it according to local needs and wishes,” continued Sergeant
Alex Reid.
“If the Information Points continue to be a success, the force
hopes to extend them into other areas.”
