Corsham Mothers' Union appeals for younger members to join their monthly meet-up.

St Bart's church where the Corsham Mothers' Union often serve refreshments are local concerts, or provide tea and sandwiches for the church fete.
“It’s the first Wednesday of the month,” said Mrs Shirley Green, branch leader of the Mothers' Union in Corsham, “We have a little prayer meeting and a talk. Then we have a cup of tea and a chinwag and do anything that we’ve got to do that’s forthcoming in the church, be it work or provide tea for functions.”
The group are twenty-one in number, aged 70 to 90 and meet at Church House, Church Street in Corsham at 2:30pm on the first Wednesday of each month.
“We start at half-past two and usually finish about four or half-past four; the meetings are about a two hours long.”
The Mothers' Union organise refreshments for concerts that may take place in the church and during the church fete, they have the ‘Mothers' Union Kitchen’ which provides all the tea, sandwiches and cake for those attending.
“We’re very friendly and we’re very much in our dotage, we’d love to get younger members but these days even grandmother’s of 60-odd are looking after grandchildren.”
She expressed the concern that most young people who could attend the meetings are working: “We could do with a few younger wives or something like that, but by the time they’ve come home and taken the children to dancing or swimming, they don’t want to go out again.”
They do have other groups for those looking for a way to meet new people and get more involved in their community. “We have things in the church for younger mothers like First Steps and Early Birds,” said Mrs Green, “and we have the Church Brigade for older children at St Bart’s.”
