Police are searching for a Corsham rugby player who has been missing from his home in Chippenham since Tuesday.

South African Donovan Van Lill, 29, who works at the Olympiad Leisure Centre, was reported missing after not turning up for work.

PC Mark Gale of Chippenham police is appealing for members of the public to get in touch with any information.

He said: “He is known to be a very reliable employee, and was last at work on Tuesday.

“After he didn’t come into work on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday his employers contacted us.

“At the moment we have no reason to believe he is in any danger so he is a low risk missing person.

“If someone leaves anything like a suicide note and has disappeared with tablets or alcohol then that would a high risk missing person.

“But I want to make it clear that we have nothing like that in this case.

“We take all reports of missing persons very seriously and never rule anything in or out.

“We speak to employers, friends, family and conduct searches of the places they might be or frequent.”

Mr Van Lill is described as having a South African accent, short dark hair and a stocky build.

Olympiad manager Jenny Christensen said staff at the leisure centre are keen to get in touch with him.

She said: “Everyone is very worried, this not at all like Donovan. If he’s anything he’s reliable.

“Many of the staff are friends as well as colleagues and so we’ve been trying to track him down.

“We tried to call him a lot of Wednesday and get in touch with him of facebook but there’s not that much we can do.

“We’re keeping our eyes open and asking his friends if they know anything. “It’s a worrying time for everyone here.”

Jason Goldsworthy, third team captain at Corsham Rugby Club, said Mr Van Lill’s team mates were considering distributing missing person posters. He said: “At the end of the day he’s one of our team mates and so we’re worried about him.

“Some of the guys on the team also work at the leisure centre so see him a lot. “We had a meeting about it on Thursday night and we’re thinking of ways to raise his profile and maybe distribute fliers.

“If we can get his face out there a bit someone might spot him and get in touch with the police. “There’s not much else we really can do at the moment.

“We’ve left loads of messages on his answer phone but his mobile has now gone dead.

“He’s usually always on facebook, he updates his status on a daily basis but he’s not been on since Tuesday which has got us worried.”

Anybody with information can contact police on 0845 4087000.

I hope he's found soon. I've seen the Facebook page and the video made appealling for any information - it's clear a lot of people care about him.

I understood that the Police do now have his Driving Licence, so he really only has the clothes that he disappeared in, which is really worrying considering he has been away a whole week now, with no money, phone, passport etc!
I only met a few times in the gym but he was very motivational and a caring guy, so this seams so out of character!
He has got, looking at the find him Facebook Account, several distinctive tattoos especially the one on his stomach, and I would guess if he is at liberty, he would still be working out somewhere maybe going under an assumed name?, so somebody may recognise him from those, if he does just want to disappear!
Be good just to know he is OK, the reason he may have gone, if that is true are his business, but I am sure a lot of people would sleep easier just knowing he is OK! From what his friends have said though this does look very suspicious! I am sure from listening to Police this morning they are doing everything possible to try and find out what happened to him.

I hope he turns up safe and sound soon. The distribution of flyers sounds like a good idea and if you have any further information that'll help to find Donovan please put it up on the Corsham People.
