Lack of Affordable Housing in Corsham

A lack of affordable housing in Corsham may not have been helped by the rejection of the planning application to create flats at the Corsham Almshouses.

The Corsham Almshouses, a listed building, which holds great importance to residents in the town.
Those seeking accommodation in the town and surrounding villages who may be at a disadvantage financially, could soon struggle to find housing in the area.
However there is hope that further affordable housing will be built in other places in Corsham for those who are need of it.
A representative of Westlea Affordable Housing Association said: “We’ve just got planning on a new site Pound Mead.”
The area, near where the old Corsham railway station once was, may soon see recent developments which may solve some of the housing issues.
The representative from the local housing association added: “There’s a big shortage of affordable housing.”
Have you been affected or do you agree with the actions of local residents to refuse the planning application at the Corsham Almshouses?

Why do we need more affordable housing? I suspect the forces personnel whose rent is paid by the MOD push the prices up.

ReportYes we do need more affordable housing in Corsham and the Pound Mead development will go some way to achieving this. The rejection of The Almshouses was the right decision. This is a listed building with great historical importance to the town and should remain so. You should have seen the plans - awful!
Note to readers: All planning applications are posted outside Corsham Town Hall with the detailed plans available for public viewing inside.
