Not Just For The MoD ...

Did you know there's somewhere local you can buy and sell your household items, clothes, books and bric-a-brac?
-
Rails of clothes
-
Shoes, shoes, shoes!
-
Bric-a-brac
The Thrift Shop at Rudloe has been in service for over 20 years and offers local people the chance to buy some fantastic bargains as well as raising money for LOCAL charities.
Run purely by volunteers and based on the MOD site at Rudloe, many people are under the mistaken belief that it is only accessible to services and forces personnel, which is not the case at all! Anybody and everybody is welcome to pop in and browse the rails of clothes and other items for sale.
It's open every Wednesday morning from 9:30 until 11:30 (ish) and customers can sell a maximum of 10 items per week.
Items must be in excellent, clean (and ironed in the case of clothes) condition and will either be priced by one of the team of volunteers or you are free to set your own prices.
If your item sells, the thrift shop take 10% of the purchase price which goes into the charity pot, and you keep the rest.
Items remain in the thrift shop for 4 weeks at full-price, then the price is halved for 4 weeks, and then if it's still not sold, the items move into the "charity" room where everything is sold for 30p with all money taken going into the charity pot.
Anything that still remains unsold, can either be reclaimed by you or it gets taken to local chairty shops across the county.
Once a year ALL of the takings are split between local charities.
It's a great place for mums to make a bit of money selling their kid's clothes and toys as well as a chance to meet other people and search out some great bargains.
Prices are cheaper than charity shops - I've shopped there for years and have got myself some fantastic bargains in the past ... Monsoon jeans (that fit!) for £2.20 was my best find!
To find the thrift shop, head to the mini-double-roundabout at the top of post office hill in Rudloe, and park in the same car-park as for Smarties pre-school. The thrift shop is in the building on the right. (Right under the big antennae aerial at Rudloe)
There's also a little cafe area where you can buy tea, coffee or squash and there are usually homemade cakes which are delicious!

ReportThis sounds brilliant - I remember something like this when my parents were in the forces. It was really useful and like you said - a good way for mums to make a bit of money selling clothes their children had grown out of or toys they'd grown bored of. I had no idea there was one in Rudloe! Thanks, MrsJelly!
