Box Parish Council organises regular guided walks, usually taking place on the last Saturday of every month.
Margaret Carey, who works for the Box Parish Council, said: “They’ve been going for years; as long as I can remember and I’ve been here thirty years.”
The Parish of Box has over 90 recognised rights of way, many of which date centuries back.
“It’s a regular thing,” said Mrs Carey about the walks, “and they go off for about two hours around various routes around Box. They meet at the car park at the recreation ground at about 2pm.”
The paths and bridleways were once used by villagers to get to and from work or transporting produce from the fields to the mills for grinding.
“There are not so many walkers in winter time but there’s usually about half a dozen people and we’re getting quite a few people from Bath coming along now,” add Mrs Carey, “It’s a nice two hour walk and everyone enjoys it.”
A map of numerous footpaths and bridleways in the area is available from the newsagents ‘Stop Press’ and ‘The County Stores’ within the village, costing £1.
