The Best Allotment Competition in Corsham is to take place

towards the end of June or beginning of July this year.

The Community and Information Officer for the Corsham Town

Council, Sharon Thomas said: “It’s part of the Corsham in Bloom Competition.

Basically the town enters South West in Bloom which is part of Britain in Bloom

every year. Within that we hold Corsham in Bloom.”

Britain in Bloom is a horticultural campaign which focuses on

trying to create a cleaner and greener Britain through action in the community.

The areas where participants can earn top marks is in horticultural

achievement, environmental responsibility and community participation.

Not only is Corsham as a whole going to be judged, but also the

allotments within it where keen gardeners who have been tending their plots of

land will have their efforts recognised.

It involves “basically everyone who owns an allotment” and “the

plots are judged.”

The judges have yet to be decided on and more information will

be available next month, but the allotments are “not due to be judged until the

very end of June – July,” add Mrs Thomas.

Start pruning bushes, taming trailing plants and trimming back

any overgrown patches of your plots for Corsham in Bloom. For more information contact Sharon Thomas on 01249 702130.

Add your photographs of your budding allotments or vibrant

gardens to the Corsham People Gallery and let’s see the little Cotswold town at

its brightest and beautiful.

I'm new to gardening so ours has been a bit experimental. The foxglove which we planted last year is the greatest success though. The bumblebees love it.

I'd love an allotment but am still on the waiting list (nearly 3 years now :-( ).
