A cake-sale by Corsham School students has raised £80 for a trip to Peru as part of a World Challenge Adventure. It is going to be a four week trip costing £3,500; a total which the students are raising themselves. Molly McLeod, 14, was manning the cake stand at the Corsham Festival’s French Market, said: “We’ve raised £700 so far,” and they seem slowly on their way to reaching the grand total needed. Excitement is buzzing about the trip and giving the students the drive to raise money in new and inventive ways. Today appeared a grand success as well before midday all of the cakes had been sold, proving to be very popular with those who turned out to the big market. Stalls of all shapes and sizes stretched down the cobbled streets and though there was a decidedly French theme in the air, the idea of Peru sparked interest in many of the locals. A number of events have been held by the students with the aid of their school with car boot sales and cake sales. Molly has even taken a job on a paper round to help her and her classmates make their dream a reality. Further sponsored events look to take place in the future as the forty students find further ways to make the money needed.

World Challenge Adventure is a great way of not just seeing a part ofthe world that you might have miss but also is very rewarding. Friends went to Bolivia when I was at school, where they helped to build schools. Good Luck and keep up the good work!

My friend Pedro is from Peru.  He's a llama, but he's very nice.

Great job - well done kids! I think sometimes we spend too much time bemoaning the 'youth of today' and it's encouraging to see that they too can be generous and charitable.

More details should be coming from the students themselves in the following weeks  - so stay tuned to see what they're up to, how to help and what they're planning next.
