James Methuen, the current owner of Corsham Court and the eighth generation of Methuens to live in the country house, spoke of what attracts visitors to the beautiful estate.
“The house and the gardens have been open to the public for almost 200 years,” said Mr Methuen.
The house itself is bordered by manicured lawns that lead out into the expansive grounds, with only the odd peacock call to pierce the peaceful silence. A folly lurks within the tall grasses and throughout the garden there are secret hidden pathways and delights to spark the visitors interest.
One part of the grounds always draws attention which is the folly that can be seen from the lane to Corsham Court from the town hall.
“It’s a sort of fake ruin which was built to hide the back of the house,” explained the owner, but it is a beautiful piece of architecture that gives a hint of the lovely structure beyond the gates to the court.
“The art collection is the thing that most people come to see, that’s what makes it famous,” he added, "and the furniture."
At current Corsham Court is open at weekends from 2pm until 4.30pm, but after the 20th of March it will be open daily (except Mondays and Fridays) from 2pm until 5.30pm.
The price for an adult to view the house and gardens is £7 (£2.50 for the gardens only), for children it is £3.00 (£1.50 for the gardens only) and for OAPs to visit the cost is £6.00 (£2.00 for the gardens only).
