I wanted to know exactly how cold this chilly weather is.

So, I visited a US website that lists personal weather stations, including several in our area:
Lyneham at Weather Underground
Lo and behold, there is a new station in the Valley Road part of town, with all the details online, including a webcam. The records stretch back to March of this year. Thanks to Colin Boyd for running this:
It was easy to use Mr Boyd's site to find the answer to my original question. Turns out it got down to -0.1 °C (31.8 °F) in the wee hours of this morning, though it was a smidgen colder for a few nights earlier this autumn.

This is fascinating and there's so much detail. What a great idea. It's feeling very chilly at the moment - that's for sure!
