Keep Safe This Summer Advise Wiltshire Police

The Wiltshire Police are issuing crime prevention advice to
Wiltshire residents as the warmer weather sets in.
The Community Safety Inspector, Ron Peach, said, “Hot
weather will naturally encourage people to leave windows and doors open to let
in fresh air. This is just what the burglar is looking for."
The advice being given is to securely lock all doors and
windows when away, no matter for how long a period of time you are not going to
be home.
They also encourage people to be a nosey neighbour and to
report any suspicious behaviour around your premises or neighbourhood and jot
down the registration numbers of any unusual vehicles in the area.
Lastly do not approach any suspicious individuals but tell
the police their description in as much detail as possible.
Inspector Peach added: "Most burglars are opportunists
who do not plan their crimes, but constantly look for an easy chance to enter a
property through a door or window that has been left open. In fact, the vast majority of burglaries are
committed in this way. A burglar doesn’t want to go to the effort of forcing or
breaking doors and windows – and seldom needs to! Don’t make it easy for them.
Please shut up and keep the burglar out.”
