MOD Parking Nightmare on Westwells Road Continues

Corsham barracks have left some homeowners nearby living in a "car park" after not supplying adequate parking for workers and visitors at MOD Corsham.

Westwells Road where the barracks is situation, has traffic cones scattered along edges of the road which have forced cars to park closer to those homes further along the street.

The road has been turned into a one-way street with cars parked on either side of the road in some places, many vehicles being left on private property or in inconvenient areas which could pose a hazard to pedestrians and drivers.

The decision to provide less parking when the Basil Hill site was developed, was made in an effort to encourage public transport.

There is the option of a bus service to those who work in the area, but the rising cost of using public transport has put people off. A free bus-to-work scheme might be a solution.

It seems the parking chaos the Corsham People warned of months ago, during the development of Basil Hill Barracks, has become a reality. Users of the Corsham People have shared their views, observing the same problems: inconvenience, possible danger and a bus service which seems not to be used by those it was set up for. How do you feel about the issue?

A new cark park is being built on site (400+ places) which should about double the currently available onsite places. When open, this should eliviate the problem of the on-road parking. However, this car park is not due to be open until November 2011 :(

It doesn't seem like anyone is doing anything. There are more yellow cones about but that just pushes the cars further down the road. It used to be such a quiet little place and a sweet part of Neston.

Does anyone have the latest update please? The Cars are still causing problems- the nightmare continues.

a ridiculous situation. Totally unrealistic to expect public transport (what public transport?) to solve the problem, and anyway, this is inconsistent with the recent in planning guidance which was introduced to avoid just this sort of problem

    Hello all.

This may or may not be of interest, but I am meeting a reporter from the gazette and herald at 1.30pm tomorrow afternoon outside the main entrance on the westwells road, where all the car park carnage is.

This whole thing has descended into a total farce, and something needs to be done. If anyone else would like to come along and voice their concerns then please do, as clearly many desenting voices are better than one.

I will also be speaking to him about the lack of information concerning the total finished cost of the site, as I have heard plenty of rumours that it went way over budget.

In addition, I have also informed that the car park opposite the basil hill site on westwells road is currently being rented by the MOD to house the extra vehicles, yet clearly this is not working due to the overspill into westwells road. I would wager that the costs of this rent were not included in the final budget proposal of tax payers money.

Anyway, if you want to come along and voice your concerns, mike wilkinson of the gazette and herald, will be meeting me at 1.30pm tomorrow afternoon at the main basil hill site entrance on westwells road.

    many thanks

    Harry
