Yesterday all of the Military Units in Corsham were presented with the Freedom of the Town as part of the Armed Forces Day. This was the first time that the Corsham Town Council has granted the Freedom of the Town, recognising how embedded the military and the Ministry Defence are in Corsham.

“This seems a fitting tribute to the men and women of the British Armed Forces,” said Chairman of the Corsham Council, Allan Bosley during the ceremony.
The march took place through the town centre, leaving Valley Road at midday, heading down Pickwick Road and marching to the main High Street to the Town Hall.
Sergeant Ken Rees from the Royal Air Force was watching the parade and said: “The important thing to get across is that all these guys are involved in operations all the time and then they get together in the evenings after work and they do this.”
Hundreds of Corsham people turned out to see the parade and hear the ceremony, waving Union Jack flags in celebration. Were you one of them and how important are the Armed Forces to you in your community?
The Ministry of Defence has operated a number of bases in the area of Corsham since the First World War and the construction of the new Basil Hill Site indicates that the Armed Forces will continue to be a strong part of what makes up Corsham.
