End of Trick-or-Treating for Corsham Kids

Last year I had no trick-or-treaters at my door and had to eat a bag full of miniature Mars Bars all to myself. Usually I wouldn’t be complaining, but it’s a bit sad when you don’t get young people out enjoying Halloween like I used to. Did anyone in Corsham get kids knocking on their door for sweets? Do you like trick-or-treaters?

There are always messages from Wiltshire Police about putting signs up to deter youngsters from trick-or-treating or warnings of anti-social behaviour, but I’ve never experienced any ghoulish behaviour on October 31st (not from the kids anyway – the adults in the pubs are another story!).

There are a number of retired people in the Corsham area and they might find trick-or-treaters intimidating, but it’s a shame that some negative attitudes towards young people have seemingly stopped a fun activity. Teenagers these days have a bad enough reputation without everyone thinking they’re suddenly going to turn into monsters on Halloween. They may look like werewolfs or vampires, but we needn’t resort to silver bullets, garlic or spoiling what could be a fun night for everyone.

There seem to be plenty for adults to do with parties at local pubs, but what about the kids?

I agree with @GoggleEyes. Having lived in America for 10 years, from where all this nonsense was imported, the unwritten rule is to only call at houses with their outside lights on and evidence of pumpkins etc. outside. It's a good system and ensures everybody is happy and safe. -Ben

I put a Halloween candle in the window to encourage children to call at the door. I enjoy seeing the children dressed up and they are always supervised by an adult and very polite. I also get to eat any left-over sweets!

Last year was fine! i sat in and got up like 3 times. admittedly it was quiet. anti social?!?! i dont think involving people in a bit of fun is ANTI social.

When i was a child if the residents didnt want trick or treaters theyd put a sign up saying no thanks. i think its sweet everyone dressing up

cant wait for halloween this year, already bought my costume!

I wouldn't be complaining - now you don't have to share the chocolate! A few of the local pubs are starting their Halloween events early on Saturday, I think so the children can attend for a few hours before the grown-ups get a bit too merry.

I only let my child knock at houses that have actively made it look Halloweeny.
