Last Friday had the Corsham Christmas Lights Switch-on where the town was packed with people, but what did you think of the event?

Sue Groves commented via the Corsham People Facebook page about the event, “Yes, very festive,” but did you get into the Christmas spirit?

Chairman of the Corsham Town Council counted down along with the rest of those gathered in the cold, before out local celebrity Stephanie Millward, a Para-Olympian, switched them on. Strings of white light burst into life along the high street, as well as the Corsham Wishing Tree in vibrant blue colours. Did you make your wish at the tree?

There were stalls selling a number of festive gifts, the usual snow machine perched atop two businesses in the high street and even Father Christmas turned up with his reindeer.

There was some concern for the animals involved as one Corsham People user commented via the Facebook page: “I felt sorry for the petrified reindeer.” The animals were led through the crowd mingling outside of the Corsham Town Hall, but they did not appear to be all that pleased about it. Do you think there should be reindeer next year?

Another local commented that it “needs to change – it’s been the same for years.” Do you agree? Should our lights switch-on be altered and if so, how?

Can't we have a band one year? Just singing Christmas hits and getting the crowd going? I like the lights, but the ones this year seem a bit broken. I liked the reindeer but the event should have been better organised to keep them at a distance from everyone.

The Christmas lights in Corsham are pathetic. If the town can't do better than that then we shouldn't bother. Quite embarrasing really.

I agree that, although the reindeer are lovely, they need to have proper protection at an event like this.

I understand the money saving argument about the lights, but as long as it's done in a carbon-sensitive way I think it would be a real shame not to have any. As well as being festive, it brings some welcome brightness to this otherwise gloomy time of year

Half of them are broken! I just walked down the Corsham high street to find long chains of the Christmas lights not functioning. Such a shame.
