  • A cider bar was being held by North Wiltshire's Campaigners for Real Ales with one cider for sale, No Nonsense Cider, using apples from one of Lacock's own apple trees.
  • Lacock held their annual apple day this Sunday the 18th of October.
  • The day had talks by the Head Gardener, Sue Carter, who explained the importance of apples to the history of Lacock Abbey.
  • The day saw a big turn-out with hundreds turning up to see the delights that the National Trust had organised.
  • From information to cider presses to cider tasting, there was a multitude of things to do for all ages.
  • Barrels and baskets and bundles of apples littered the garden where the event was held with the scent of cider mingling with those of an autumnal day.
  • Demonstrations of how to use a cider press were also underway which drew many crowds and ethusiasts.
  • Music and dancing took place which attracted children and parents to take part.
  • This was the first year that the event had music and it added to the feel of the day as though one were stepping back in time.
  • Apples of different shapes and sizes were stuffed onto tables and any available space: from cooking apples to eating apples, you were spoilt for choice.
  • Wiltshire Scrapstore and Resource Centre were at the event encouraging children to make apple shaped bookmarks or pictures using recycled material.
  • The apple bookmarks were a big success and the idea of getting creative using scrap material is the key function of the charity Wiltshire Scrapstore and Resource Centre.
