A FASCINATING concert will celebrate the work of composers who have had a connection with Corsham from the 18th century to the present day.
The 'Corsham in Music' event will mark the Golden Jubilee of the Corsham Civic Society.
It has been devised by composer and former artistic director of The Pound Arts Trust Nicholas Keyworth. He said: "I hope this tribute to my home town will also be a unique celebration of nearly four centuries of its heritage."
Internationally recognised composer Michael Tippett, who lived in the town's High Street from 1960 to 1970, will feature with one of his spirituals from 'A Child of Our Time'.
One of the more unusual discoveries is the music of George Gay, a stonemason, organist and composer from the 18th century, who wrote many hymns and anthems named after different parts of Corsham and its surrounding villages.
The tradition is continued by the more contemporary work of Wyndham Thomas, who now lives in Corsham.
A recent student from Bath Spa's MA songwriting course, Jim Chorley will be presenting his own song, 'Corsham Town', inspired by his studies and experiences in the area.
The evening will be brought bang up to date with the premiere of 'Leap of Faith' from the new musical 'Revolution' by Nicholas Keyworth in collaboration with lyricist Michael Wilkinson.
Originally piloted in Corsham Festival in 2011, Revolution has grown from strength to strength following its five-star premiere at Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012 and in advance of its West End showcase this December.
Civic Society chairman Michael Rumsey said: "I am delighted with this original approach to celebrating Corsham's heritage from its past present and future."
The concert will take place at 7.30pm on Saturday 16 November at St Bartholomew's Church, in Corsham. Tickets are £5 (£2 Civic Society members) and are available online from http://tinyurl.com/ngdhyvv target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://tinyurl.com/yzm6ghk" target="_blank">http://tinyurl.com/yzm6ghk or from Barnett Bros newsagents or the Heritage & Information Centre in the High Street.
