I'd say, initially, linger for a bit; that is, follow others that interest you and just watch the conversations. You might want to follow a few famous people.
Then, when you're ready to start tweeting, pick a topic that interests you and tweet your observations and thoughts on them.
Also, use TweetDeck. It's awesome.

Twitter search for a subject that interests you i.e politics, beer etc and see what suggestions it comes up with. Also search for Corsham and follow some local people and follow who they follow. here's some:
