Hi, I live in Bath but can not afford to buy there! I was considering Corsham but get mixed reviews about it. I know the high street is very pretty but some of the estates are not? Is it a nice/safe place to live? Is there a lot of crime?
I am not judging I just want to know before buying. Any nice areas or areas to avoid would be helpful?
Thank you everyone!

Corsham is only nine miles from Bath and is quite a nice little town. I'd recommend looking at some of the villages in the area. Biddestone, Gastard, Hartham, Slaughterford, Box and Neston are quite nice, friendly and welcoming villages - but Corsham in generally is a nice place. It depends what you're looking for! I'd avoid the Katherine Park development, but that's just my opinion. I didn't much like feeling closed in and surrounded by concrete - much prefer the more rural areas of Corsham. I'd say Corsham is pretty safe and much more so than other neighbouring towns if you believe the press.

Have a look at the villages in the area - they're lovely communities to be a part of and have easy access into Bath without being too noisy. Bath Life just featured Corsham in their magazine and were very positive about the town. It's a place you'd want to settle down in.

Hi thank you very much for your post-thats great. We are looking for somewhere to settle and have children. Funnily enough we are going to look at a house on katherine park, it seems to be cheaper. Is it not as safe do you think? We would love to be somewhere more rural but it seems not as many houses come up there? We would ideally like to get on an incentive scheme with developers as you get so much for your money but then as you say new build estates tend not to be as nice!
Thank you soo much for your help.

I walked through part of Katherine Park last week and noticed how many weeds there are growing up through the pavements and brambles all over the flower beds. Once the developers moved out it just seems to have been left. I know people who live on Katherine Park and are very happy there. It is a big estate and I'm sure it has different areas. Some of the houses are very big and detached, and others are all tall and on top of each other. I personally wouldn't choose to live there, but that's only my opinion and not based on anything bad I've heard about the place.

Hey ...stop knocking Katherine Park! I have raised 2 kids here and it's been fantastic. We have a great house in a quiet but friendly area. The kids can go out on bikes in a traffic free zone and the neighbours can't do enough for you. We feel really safe here and have never seen any trouble. We love it. The estate is very big and every pocket of it has a very different atmosphere and dynamic. I recommend giving it an explore before writing it off. I am not an estate person at all but am really glad we moved here.

I've lived in Katherine Park with my family for 4 years now. Moved in while it was still being built. Our area is quiet and trouble-free, and other than the usual sort of nuisance around the shop, I don't see any regular problems with behaviour.

Downsides though, it's true though that the developers and council abandoned it as soon as it was finished. It was at least two years before we saw dog poo bins, and there are still no litter bins where they need to be. No general recycling point. No post box. No management of parking and badly designed driveways, so the roads are clogged with parked cars causing a hazard. Also the general areas, particularly the large green park that was supposed to be developed have been ignored and left to just basic mowing. There was supposed to be a park or sporting facilities there, but the money has gone unused with nobody managing it properly.

That being said, for an estate it's not bad at all.

I used to walk my dogs round the sports field and then the lovely lakes that have been left in the middle of the estate: that was always a great walk. Only I had noticed that the 'park' and the sports field were just water-logged. I can't fathom how anyone can have a proper game of football there or any sports, unless that problem has been fixed now?

They spent a great deal of time digging it all up a couple of years ago to put in some special pipe drainage. If I remember correctly, it was supposed to be a precursor to it becoming a town football facility, complete with pavilion and a small car park paid for in part by that development money that still hasn't been used. There were a lot of concerns about traffic and noise from residents though, and concern that a valuable general recreational park would be lost. Haven't been to any meetings about it for a while though, so my knowledge is undoubtedly out of date.

The lake walk is still nice, I take my dog down there regularly, but it's pretty overgrown in parts. Needs some TLC. There's evidence that a stream was originally planned, running from the estate down to the big lake, but it hasn't ever been finished.
