The Wiltshire Police is halfway through their summer

drink-drive campaign which began at the start of this month on the 1st June

2010. Have you spotted an increased police presence on the road breathalysing people?

The mid-term results of the National Summer 2010 Drink Drive

Campaign show that drink driving still remains to be a problem, despite the

hard hitting advertising and enforcement activity.

Inspector Nick Elton, Operations Manager for the Wiltshire

Police Road Policing Unit, said: “I believe this has been the most productive

drink drive campaign to date with the number of breath tests carried out

locally having increased by nearly 71% and we’re only half way through the

campaign.

“The 28 drink drivers breathalysed and arrested will be brought

to justice and could face disqualification, a fine or potentially imprisonment

as a result of their choice to drink and drive.”

Throughout June, 1,260 drivers have been breath tested within

the Wiltshire county. Twenty-eight of these have tested positive.

Inspector Nick Elton added: “I would reiterate to everyone else

who is a driver that this campaign continues for the remainder of June and that

Wiltshire Police is committed to continue to target drink and drug driving

throughout the year along with the other major causes of serious injury and

death on the roads such as: excess speed, mobile phone use, seatbelts, driving

without insurance and driving with uncorrected poor eyesight.” Have you noticed this as a problem in Corsham?
