Children in Corsham are set to enjoy all-singing, all-dancing musical workshops after councillors agreed to fund them.

The workshops in lyric writing, music and movement are being offered to every school in the Corsham community area by the people behind Revolution! The Musical, a new musical developed in Corsham which is going on tour in May and June.

A grant of £1,500 was awarded by Wiltshire councillors who watched on at a short performance from the show at Corsham Area Board last Thursday.

At least 150 Corsham children will take part in the workshops while hundreds more people are expected to see performances of Revolution! The Musical on May 25 at Melksham Assembly Hall and May 26 at the Warminster Athenaeum.

The musical is a story of one Bosnian man's journey as he seeks out love, hope and freedom against the backdrop of the crumbling communist regime of Yugoslavia.

Movement director Margaret Swallow, who is leading the workshops, said: "The show works on many levels and is very relevant to the curriculum.

"We'll be delivering lively and engaging music and movement workshops while the older children can discover the social and geographical context of the show and what relevance that has in 2012."

Brilliant idea - these workshops look like they will be very enjoyable and educational. I really think this musical is a fantastic thing to come out of Corsham.

As Chairman of the Area Borad which awarded the grant, we were delighted to be able to support Revolution! The Musical's application, especially since so many of our young people will benefit from the workshops. As well as that, it was a highly entertaining presentation, and probably the most innovative and unusual presentation we have received.
