A young driver has been arrested under a new offence of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a serious three-car collision in Wiltshire.
A mother and two children had to be taken to hospital after being injured on their journey home from school on Wednesday afternoon on the A4 between Chippenham and Corsham.
Police said the collision happened when a silver Mazda MX5 car heading towards Chippenham was overtaken by a blue Peugeot 306 estate.
The Peugeot hit a green Ford Ka, with the family inside, head-on as they were travelling towards Corsham.
The driver of the Peugeot, a 20-year-old man from the Corsham area, was uninjured and was arrested for causing serious injury by dangerous driving – a recently-created offence as part of the Government's toughening up of the laws on drivers who cause death or serious injury.
